After the release of Nagare, Ryuga, Hakaze and Taiki Concepts, Mazda has come up with another new concept car which is called Mazda Furai Concept. The word Furai means “sound of wind”.
As reported by Inside Line, the Furai Concept was designed by Mazda’s studio in Southern California led by North American design boss Franz Von Holzhausen and further developed by the race car specialists at Swift Engineering. From the collaboration, the Furai Concept is able to generate about 80 percent of the downforce of the original race-spec bodywork, considering the Furai has never been tested in a wind tunnel.
The Mazda Furai Concept is not the usual non-functional concept car with no engine. It is designed to really perform where it is based on the 2005 Courage C65 chassis, which is an LMP2-class entry in the American Le Mans Series. The Mazda Furai Concept was actually tested for a couple of laps around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca piloted by ALMS ace Jamie Bach.
