Earlier today I put up a post about leaked images of the new 2008 BMW M3 Sedan but not long after that, BMW releases the official pictures and details of the new M3 Sedan. BMW claimed that the new sedan will be the most most powerful, highest-performing M3 ever with four doors.
The all-new 2008 M3 Sedan will be powered by the first V8 engine installed on the BMW M3 series. The V8 engine produces more power, more efficient and lighter than the previous 6 cylinder M3 engine.
The new 4.0 liters V8 engine, mated with a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox, produces 414 hp (15 % increase from the V6) at 8,300 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque at 3,900 rpm with 85 % of the maximum torque available consistently through 6,500 rpm.
Even with a bigger engine, it still could deliver an 8 % fuel-economy improvement when compared to its predecessor.
The new M3 sedan is fitted with the internally-vented, cross-drilled cast iron discs measuring at 14.2 inches in diameter at the front and 13.8 inches in the rear. It also comes with standard 8 x 8.5 inches M-style light-alloy spoked with 245/40 low-profile tires at the front and 18 x 9.5 with 265/40 tires at the rear.
The driver could select to drive in either Sport mode, for sportier and better handling or Normal mode for more comfort driving
The M3 sedan comes with the electronic Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) that help avoid major over- or under-steer situations. Other systems integrated with the DSC system are ABS, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), the Start-Off Assistant and also Cornering Brake Control (CBC).
