The Citroen C5 was unveiled in Paris and set to go on sale in the UK in early 2008. Citroen is one of the UK’s biggest market sectors for large family car with over a third of a million sales last year.
The new C5 is longer and wider than the previous model with 4.78m long, 1.86m wide and 1.45m tall.
The new Citroen C5 is available in various engine versions i.e. the 127bhp 1.8i 16V and 143bhp 2.0i 16V petrol engines, four HDi diesel engines versions i.e. HDi 110, HDi 138, HDi 173 and HDi V6 208 units where each are fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter System that virtually eliminates particle emissions. The new C5 also available in manual or automatic gearboxes.
In the interior, the new C5 comes with fixed-centred controls steering wheel, with membrane-covered controls (for easy access to the cruise control, radio or telephone), Citroen’s new-generation NaviDrive system (a 7-inch central display screen and voice activation of the built-in GSM telephone, audio system and satellite navigation).
For optimum mix of comfort and dynamics, two suspension set-ups based on the Citroen C6 executive saloon are available. Citroen’s Hydractive 3 Plusself-levelling suspension could adjusts the springing and damping depending on the road conditions. For optimum comfort, soft mode is selected while a sport mode is for firmer ride and greater body control. For certain versions the driver’s seat comes with back massage function.
The new Citroen C5 also comes with few safety features such as nine airbags, upper and lower absorbers at the front end to soak up the energy released in the event of impact, a collapsible pedal assembly where the brake and clutch pedals retract into the floor of the footwell to limit injury to the driver’s legs and feet during impact and retractable steering column.
For the braking system, the C5 is fitted with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Emergency Braking Assistance, ABS and ESP as standard but Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) is available on some versions (warns drivers when the car unintentionally crosses lane markings).
