2008 Ford Mustang Bullit

The all-new Ford Mustang Bullitt comes with a 4.6-liter, 3-valve V-8 engine mated to a Tremac 5-speed manual transmission that delivers 315 hp at 6,000 rpm and 325 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm. For a snappier acceleration feel, the engine calipation is designed to increase throttle response. The redline has been boosted by 250 rpm to 6,500. The top-end speed for the Bullit is at 151 mph.

An open-element air filter is fitted to the Bullit which is located behind the driver side headlamp, mounted in an air box where the hood liner was modified to provide a full seal to the air box, ensuring that the engine is fed with cooler air. According to Ford, the new cold-air intake has shown a reduction in rise over ambient temperature from 50 degrees down to 17 degrees Fahrenheit where colder air reduces intake losses.

An innovative adaptive spark ignition system is used for the all-new 2008 Ford Mustang Bullit to further enhance the engine performance. Within a few seconds, the spark ignition system can sense the type of fuel is being injected into the motor and adjusts the spark to provide maximum torque at any given speed, as much as 10 lb-ft more between 1,000 and 4,000 rpm.

For optimum performance, Ford recommends premium fuel even though it can run on either premium or regular fuel but with the adaptive spark ignition system installed, it will be able to adjust the spark to burn regular fuel without damaging the engine.

The Bullit is fitted with custom-designed exhaust system, a true dual-exhaust system with a new H-pipe, featuring larger 3.5-inch chrome tips. The exhausts are tuned to minimize backpressure, maximize horsepower and provide the Bullitt with its powerful exhaust note.

The 2008 Mustang Bullitt’s chassis and suspension has been modified to handle the extra horsepower and torque from the 4.6-liter V-8 engine. The live rear axle uses a unique 3.73:1 gear that helps launch the Bullitt with vigor. New suspension system is installed for more aggressive driving dynamic while still maintaining the outstanding ride and balance of the base Mustang GT.

For the braking system, to improve fade resistance and pedal feel, more aggressive front pads were developed. The 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt is fitted with unique cast-aluminum Euroflange wheels wrapped in P235/50ZR 18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDWS tires used on Mustangs at the Ford Racing High Performance Driving School at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.

The Ford Mustang Bullit will only be limited to only 7,700 units for the U.S. and Canada and arrives in dealers early next year, with a starting MSRP of $31,075 (including destination and delivery).
