Audi presented the new 2009 Audi Q5 Compact SUV at the 2008 Beijing Motor Show this weekend. The Audi Q5 is set to compete against the other SUVs such as the Volvo XC60, BMW X3 and the new Mercedes-Benz GLK.
The Q5 is measures at 4.63 meter long, 1.88 meter wide and 1.65 meter high with a low drag coefficient of 0.33. Upon customers request, the headlights can be equipped with bi-xenon lamps and LED daytime running lights. The taillights meanwhile are available with distinctive LED lighting technology. The Q5 stands on 17 to 20 inches in diameter lightweight alloy wheels.
The Audi Q5 comes with 3 different body color i.e. black (standard), contrasting color or a full body-colored paint finish. For a sportier look, the S line package is available while the alternative off-road style package with underbody protection in the front and back and 19-inch wheels gives the SUV a more robust character.
On the interior, it has the longest wheelbase measuring at 2.81 meter and could accommodate 5 person. Other features include optional “rear bench seat plus”, numerous practical storage compartments, drink holders, bottle holders and onboard power outlets, optional climate-controlled drink holder, belt force limiters on the front seats, airbags and aluminium, exclusive woods, chrome, leather and Alcantara trim.
It also comes standard with an electromechanical parking brake, an intelligent chip key, a climate control system and a display screen in the instrument cluster.
The Audi Q5 is available in 3 engine variants, one petrol and two TDI diesel engines which are all direct-injection models with a turbocharger. The 2.0 TFSI 4-cylinder turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine with Audi valvelift system delivers 211 PS and 350 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm and remains constant up to 4,200 rpm. 0 to 62 mph in 7.2 seconds with the top speed of 138 mph and consume average 33.2 mpg.
The 2.0 TDI common-rail fuel injection system turbocharged engine produces 170 PS and maximum torque of 350 Nm between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm with fuel consumption of 42.1 mpg. 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds with the top speed of 204 km/h (126.76 mph).
The most powerful of the engine line up is the 3.0 TDI V6 turbocharged engine produces 240 PS and 500 Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,000 rpm. 0 to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds with the top speed of 139 mph and fuel consumption of 36.6 mpg.
The 2.0 TDI is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission while the 3.0 TDI and 2.0 TFSI are equipped with 7-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission.
