NISMO, Nissan in-house tuner, has officially unveiled the latest tuning package for the new 2009 Nissan 370Z (Fairlady Z in Japan) at the 2009 New York Auto Show. The 2009 Nissan NISMO 370Z will be available in the US in June with 350 hp 3.7-liter V6, NISMO-tuned suspension, aerodynamic body, super-lightweight 19-inch forged alloy wheels and unique interior treatments.
The 2009 NISMO Z was developed by NNA’s Specialty Vehicles Group together with Nissan’s longstanding conversion partner, Autech. The NISMO 370Z is available in one completely equipped model with a close-ratio manual transmission only where no other options will be offered.
The Nissan NISMO 370Z comes with an advanced Nissan FM (Front Midship) platform, refined 4-wheel independent suspension and powered by a 3.7-liter DOHC VQ-series V6 engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control (VVEL) to produce 350 hp at 7,400 rpm and 276 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm.
The function of the VVEL system is to help optimize intake valve open/close movements, allowing the needed air to be sent promptly to the combustion chamber at the precisely optimized time. The coupe is also equipped with an exclusive H-configured exhaust system design and muffler tuning, along with optimized ECM (Engine Computer Module) control.
The V6 engine is mated to a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission with Nissan’s new “SynchroRev Match” function, the world’s first synchronized downshift rev matching manual transmission system. The “SynchroRev Match” will automatically control and adjust engine speed when shifting to the speed of the next gear position, basically to smooth out any up/down shifts. The “SynchroRev Match” allows the driver to focus more on braking and steering and also improves vehicle balance and smoothness by reducing the typical “shock” when the clutch is engaged. The system can be deactivated with a button next to the shifter.
The Nissan NISMO 370Z also features a tight, rigid body structure with a strut tower bar brace and a pair of performance dampers. The 370Z uses specially tuned double-wishbone front/4-link rear suspension design suspension for exceptional stability and handling. Compared to a standard Nissan 370Z Coupe, front spring rates have been dialed up 15%, rear spring rates 10%, front stabilizer bar rate upped 15%, the rear stabilizer bar is 50% stiffer, the roll stiffness rate has been increased by 15% and front and rear damping factors have been increased by 40% and 140% respectively.
The Nissan NISMO 370Z stands on unique 5-spoke Nissan-branded 19-inch RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels (19×9.5-inch front, 19×10.5-inch rear) wrapped with Yokohama ADVAN Sport Y-rated high-performance tires (P245/40ZR19 front, P285/35ZR19 rear).
The coupe uses standard NISMO Sport Brakes with large diameter 14.0-inch front and 13.8-inch rear vented rotors with 4-piston front and 2piston rear aluminum callipers for its braking system. Other features include includes a variable ratio brake pedal for a more direct pedal stroke feel, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), a Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD) and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC).
A vehicle-speed-sensitive power-assisted rack-and-pinion design that has been reworked with redesigned mounting bushings and a column insulator provides responsive steering for the 370Z.
At the exterior, the 174.3 inches long NISMO 370Z features a High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional xenon design with an auto on/off feature headlights, an extended front nose design with a canard design at each corner for improved downforce, a fully integrated chin spoiler, special side sills, a unique rear bumper, a rear spoiler, a wide stance sculptural fenders, upswept quarter windows, bold “boomerang” shaped headlights and taillights, vertical door handles and aluminum hood, door panels and hatchback.
The NISMO 370Z coupe is available in 5 exterior colors: Pearl White, Brilliant Silver, Magnetic Black, Solid Red and Platinum Graphite.
Inside, the car features NISMO logo seats with black and red fabric and red stitching, a NISMO tachometer, steering wheel with smooth leather and red parallel stitching, smooth leather-wrapped shift knob, aluminum trimmed pedals, a special serialized plaque of authenticity, located on the vertical panel above the floor-mounted console, instrument panel which consists of a 3-pod cluster with oil temperature, voltmeter and clock and speedometer and tachometer with an “initial sweep” function.
Other features are anti-slip material seats, adjustable front seat Active Head Restraints, Nissan Intelligent Key with Push Button Start, power windows with one-touch auto up/down feature, power door locks with auto-lock feature, a center console box with a new non-intrusive cover design, automatic climate control, rear window defroster with timer, two 12volt power outlets, four cupholders (two in door panels, two in center console), dual overhead map lights and a AM/FM/CD/AUX 4-speaker audio system with illuminated steering wheel-mounted controls.
Standard safety features available for the 370Z are the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant classification sensors; front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags; roof-mounted side-impact air bags; seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, Active Head Restraints, Zone Body Construction with front and rear crumple zones, Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System, Vehicle Security System and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
