Does Lowering Your Car Do Any Good?

I found this interesting article from tuninglinx.com about lowering your car. You might have second thought after you rad this.

First of all, we all know that people lower their cars for:

  1. The looks (or good looks) and
  2. For better handling

Buy a set of new springs and you’ll see that your car sticks on the road, cause the center of gravity is lowered. That’s all.

Is It Really??

Hell noooo!!! cause lots of people buy lowering springs but they make their cars handling worse and worse than the original..

That’s Enough, Come To The Point!

Does Lowering Your Car Do Any Good?
Look at the picture above. This is a 206GTI with -50 mm Eibach springs.. Wasn’t Eibach the best spring in the world?? Yes, it is. Only if you buy ones which drop no more than -20 mm. If we talk serious, even Eibach won’t do good without harder shocks. The pic on the left is the proof. By the way, not every -50 mm spring must look like that, maybe there are harder ones but it’s still a big probability that your car’s handling will be worse and you will wear your shocks with shorter springs. This is because your original shocks are not made to work with springs that short.

What Happened To Your Car After -50 mm Springs??

Guys, after these -50 mm springs, the car began bouncing so much that you can’t believe it. Let me tell you the reason: If you lower a car with a set of springs which lowers more than -15 or 20 mm, then you must go for harder, even shorter shocks. That can be Bilstein, that can be Koni, whatever. Do it in your home, I don’t care but do fit harder shocks. No way..

We Have So Many Friends That Fitted Shorter Springs And They All Say It’s Great, So Who Do You Think You Are??

Of course, the handling may be better on turnings sometimes but what about on small jumps when going at a speed of 180-200 km? Will you jump to the other lane? According to my experiences, the most risky case is bumps when taking turns. Never forget that in modding world people generally say ‘great’ to everything they bought. This is because they paid too much for it and they don’t want to be called as a ‘jerk’ by their friends. If you say that everything on your car is great, than everyone will think that your car is great. That’s the reason. Will the main priority be you, or the looks?

Conclusion

  • Car manufacturers must please every customer and they produce cars with a smooth ride.
  • Before production, they spent so many hours on your car’s suspension so your shocks work best only with your original springs. Anything different than that will make it worse, or you must change your shocks, too.
  • They will never make already lowered cars for us, we will be the one to do this in the future, as we do it today.
  • It is so important to buy harder (and shorter if possible) shocks, if your springs lower more than -20 mm.
  • If you read this article and still bought -50 mm springs without harder shocks, then it’s a big probability that your car’s handling will be worse than before.
