Honda Insight Hybrid Concept

Honda has finally presented the Insight Concept which is powered by a hybrid powertrain at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The production version of the Insight hybrid is scheduled to go on sale in Europe, Japan and North America during the first half of 2009 and will be built at Honda’s Suzuka factory in Japan along with the Civic Hybrid.
The Honda Insight Concept is powered by a 1.3-liter IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) system which has been extensively modified to reduce its cost and weight.
The Insight will be offered as a 5-door hatchback with seating for five passengers and built on a newly developed platform. To give the vehicle a low center of gravity and the practicality of a conventionally powered hatchback, the compact control unit and the battery are installed beneath the boot space.
According to Honda, even though with the reduction of cost, the quality of the Insight will not be compromised and its engineers have to find more intelligent cost reduction solutions. Honda targeted the CO2 emissions and fuel economy of the Insight are similar to the existing Civic Hybrid.
The Honda Insight will be priced from around $18,000 to $19,000 and Honda expects to sell 200,000 units of the vehicle per year.
