
Hyundai has unveiled the first images of an innovative plug-in hybrid concept car known as the BLUE-WILL which will be presented at the Seoul Motor Show on April 2nd 2009.
The Hyundai BLUE-WILL hybrid concept is powered by an all-aluminum gasoline direct injected 1.6-liter engine mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission and a 100 kW electric motor. Lithium Ion Polymer battery pack which is neatly bundled with the fuel tank under the rear seat to maximise luggage space, stored the electric power.
When the ElantraLPI Hybrid goes on sale in Korea this July, Hyundai will be the first automaker in the world to apply Lithium Ion Polymer in a mass production vehicle.
The Hyundai BLUE-WILL hybrid concept features headlamp bezels made of recycled PET soft drink bottles. Bio-plastics, a biodegradable product from plant extract meanwhile is used for the interior (PLA) and the engine cover (PA11).
The hybrid’s panoramic roof comes with dye-sensitized solar cells integrated in the glass area can generate power for the batteries from the sun without impeding visibility.
