Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series Coupe

Mercedes-Benz and AMG has released the official details and images of the SL65 AMG Black Series coupe which is based on the highly modified and lightened version of the SL roadster.
The Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series coupe features a carbon-fiber fixed roof, broader front fenders, hood, trunk lid and front and rear aprons and this reduce the weight of the coupe to more than 550 lb compared to the standard SL.
The appearance of the SL65 AMG Black Series is also bolder with the flatter roof, broader front fenders (nearly 6 inches wider), large air intakes in the front apron and hood, a rear apron with air diffuser fins and retractable rear spoiler. The rear spoiler automatically raises nearly 5 inches whenever the car reaches about 74 mph to create downforce at high sppeds.
The car stands on weight-optimized AMG forged alloy wheels with sizes at 9.5 x 19 inches up front and 11.5 x 20 in the rear wrapped in 265/35/19 tires in front and 325/30/20 tires at the rear. The SL65 is also fitted with vented and perforated composite ceramic brake discs at 15-inch diameter at the front with 6-piston fixed callipers and 14-inch, 4-piston fixed callipers at the rear.
Inside, the SL65 AMG Black Series features carbon-fiber bucket seats upholstered in Nappa leather with AMG logo, AMG Performance steering wheel, aluminum shift paddles, a white tachometer with 4 integral LEDs to alert driver about optimal shift points and a black speedometer that reads up to 225 mph.
The Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series coupe is powered by a modified 6.0-liter AMG V12 engine producing 650 hp and a maximum torque of 738 lb-ft. The high output is made possible with the installation of bigger twin turbochargers and also by modifying the air intake passages and the turbo wastegates while its air intercooler is now 30 % more efficient. The coupe clocked 3.8 seconds from 0 to 60 mph with an electronically limited top speed of 198 mph.
The modified engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with AMG’s SpeedShift Plus shift control that provides four shift modes: “C,” “S,” “M1″ and “M2,” which has 25 % quicker shift times than “M1.”
A fully adjustable sport suspension is equipped to the SL65 AMG Black Series which allows fine tuning of shock absorber jounce and rebound, ride height and wheel alignment. The Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series coupe will make its world debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October before going on sale early next year.
