Mercedes-Benz will unveil the Vision GLK BLUETEC Hybrid at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show which feature a hybrid powertrain from Mercedes’ “TrueBlueSolutions” strategy.
The Mercedes GLK BLUETEC Hybrid is powered by a BLUETEC 2.2 liter 4-cylinder diesel engine mated to an electric motor producing 224 hp (165 kW) and 560 Nm of torque. The Vision GLK BLUETEC clocked 7.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and the top speed is at 215 km/h. Even with such power, the hybrid only consumes an average of 5.9 liter of diesel per 100 km with 157 g/km of CO2 emmission. The SUV also meets American BIN5 and the European EU6 standards.
The Mercedes-Benz Vision GLK BLUETEC Hybrid powertrain comes from the mixture of 2.2 liter 4 cylinder CDI diesel engine which act as the combustion engine and the electric motor acts as both a generator and starter, backs up the internal combustion engine during the fuel-intensive acceleration phase by contributing its maximum torque of 160 Nm.
The technical features of the BLUETEC technology with AdBlue injection engine are its extremely compact and refined CDI unit with a geared camshaft drive mounted on the flywheel side include fourth-generation common-rail direct injection with an injection pressure of 2000 bar, innovative piezoelectric injectors and a two-stage turbocharger system, a disc-shaped electric motor between the CDI engine and the automatic transmission.
