Peugeot will unveil the 308 hatchback at the Paris Motor Show which is equipped with the Stop & Stop technology that will only make its appearance on Peugeot’s production line from 2011.

The Peugeot 308 is powered by a 1.6-liter HDi engine with FAP (particulate emission filter) mated to an electronically-controlled 6 speed manual gearbox (BMP6) that produces 112 bhp (82 kW) that consumes only 4.1 liter/100 km with CO2 emissions of 109 g/km in the combined cycle.

The Stop & Start technology, known also as the “micro-hybridisation” technology put the engine on standby whenever the vehicle comes to a halt such as at the red traffic light or congestion and restarts the engine instantaneously (in just 480 ms) without any intervention from the user.

According to Peugeot, this system is even more efficient when used for urban driving which could reduce fuel consumption of up to 15% according to traffic density). The system could also reduces noise and vibration to a minimum during the car’s stop phases.
