The Porsche Cayenne SUV Hybrid Prototype features a hybrid module where the clutch and electric motor is positioned between the combustion engine and the transmission. This could improve acceleration and engine flexibility compared to a conventional Cayenne.
Fuel consumption at the moment is targeted at 9.8 liters/100 kilometers (approximately 24 miles per gallon). Porsche hopes that with future developments, the fuel consumption will be at 8.9 liters/kilometer (approximately 26 miles per gallon).
The Hybrid Manager, the heart of the Cayenne Hybrid, controls the car’s three main components i.e the combustion engine, the electric motor and the battery. Compared to Porsche conventional engine which manages 6,000 data parameters, the Hybrid Manager manages 20,000 data parameters and considered as one of the most powerful technologies found in any hybrid vehicle.
Other Porsche Cayenne SUV Hybrid features are electric powered power steering and vacuum pump for the brakes and also the air conditioning. The oil pump in the automatic transmission uses electrically powered units too.
