Porsche has released the official images and details of the new Porsche GT3 Cup S race car which is based on the road-going GT3 RS sportscar. The Weissach-developed and built GT3 Cup S was created exclusively for racing purposes and will race in international champion-ships in accordance with FIA GT3 regulations.
The 3.6-liter boxer engine planted in the car is identical to the power unit used in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup and the international Carrera Cup championships. The GT3 Cup S produces additional 20 hp from the standard engine to now 440 hp (324 kW) at 8,000 rpm. Maximum torque is increase by 10 Nm to 430 Nm at 7,250 rpm. The power increase was made possible from the optimised engine electronics and a modified exhaust system.
At the exterior, the GT3 Cup S features wider wheel arches, 10.5 inch wide front rims, 12 inch rear wheels, an adjustable front-splitter that generates more downforce at the front axle and wider rear wing which is positioned higher than the Cup version to provide more downforce at the rear axle.
The suspension system for the Porsche GT3 Cup S race car has also been upgraded with several components taken from the more powerful GT3 RSR which races in the GT2 class at international long-distance championships. Apart from that, the braking system has been tuned to cope with the power increase whereby the rear brake discs were fitted with 355 mm disc.
The new GT3 Cup S is priced at 250,000 Euro plus national VAT and is scheduled for delivery to customer teams from April. Apart from that, Porsche also offers a kit to upgrade the 2007 Cup models to the GT3 Cup S standard.
