Proton will unveil the new Proton R3 Satria at the Melbourne International Motor Show on 29 February 2008. The new R3 Satria is based on the new generation hot hatch Satria Neo.

The R3 Satria is developed by Proton owns special vehicles and motorsport arm at its headquarters in Shah Alam, Malaysia. R3 stands for Race, Rally, and Research. R3 is headed by Tengku Djan Ley, former Lotus engineer and prominent Malaysia race driver.

The R3 is still under development but it will feature special body enhancements as well as suspension development and a high performance power plant. The current Proton Satria Neo is powered by Proton’s own Campro 1.6 liter twin cam multi-valve engine but as for the R3, the type and configuration of the power plant has not yet been revealed.

According to Tengku Djan, the development of the R3 Satria is based on Lotus philosophy of performance through lightweight, utilising intelligent powerplant solutions while minimising weight and enhancing Satria’s already impressive handling.

Apart from the R3 Satria, Proton will also reveal the new Persona Savvy city car, Gen 2 hatch, Satria Neo and Jumbuck ute, which was named as the cleanest and greenest ute in Australia by the Australian government Green Vehicle Guide.
