Subaru has unveiled its new All-Wheel Drive Impreza World Rally Car (WRC) 2008 ahead of its debut at the Acropolis Rally in Greece starting on 29 May 2008. The car is designed in-house by Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the maker of Subaru vehicles.
Subaru World Rally Team (SWRT) will use the hatchback Impreza for the first time, incorporating a bold new color scheme featuring the famous Subaru constellation logo.
The Impreza WRC 2008 will be piloted by Australia’s Chris Atkinson and Norwegian Petter Solberg.
The Subaru Impreza WRC 2008 features longer wheelbase, with shorter front and rear overhangs than the previous model and the rear wing is fitted to the tailgate for optimum aerodynamic performance.
The car is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder boxer engine producing around 224 kW.
The previous versions of the SWRT Subaru Impreza have won the World Rally Manufacturers’ Championship in 1995, 1996 and 1997, and the Driver’s Championship in 1995, 2001 and 2003.
