Used Car Buying Guide

advertisement

The first thing and foremost is you should decide what car you can afford to buy NOT what you want to buy. You should consider few factors before you buy such as how comfortable you can pay the monthly instalments, petrol cost, maintenance fees, annual road tax and insurance premiums.

If you’re planning to buy a used car, find out what is the markey value. Notice the equipment or extras that come or missing from the car as this could increase or decrease the value.

After you’ve shortlisted the car or cars that interest you, call the respective owners and find out the history of the cars such as milage, age, condition, service records and the car specification. If all the features fall under your expectation then schedule an appointment to see the car.

It is best if you could bring someone, a friend, who have experience in inspecting a used car. Make sure that you inspect the car in daylight. Tets drive the car or vehicle and listen for rattles or unusual sound. Make sure also that you feel comfortable driving the car. Check the exhaust system for excessive smoke or noise. Check all the electrical and electronic system and equipment work properly.

Other thing to check is the vehicle engine and the chassis number against the vehicle registration document. Make sure they are not tampered with. You don’t want to buy a stolen car do you. You can find the engine number at the engine itself and the chassis number at the body panel in the engine bay.

Check the vehicle registration document to establish ownership such as the seller’s name and address. If possible check also the service record and it should correspond with the vehicle milage.

After you’re satisfied with the above, try to negotiate to get the best deal. Never be pressurised by the seller to close the deal immidiately. You should negotiate to get the price that you believe is fair for both parties. If you’re not satisfied with the price, you can always look elsewhere.

If you buy a newer used car, make sure whether the warranties are still valid. Check the service record to see that the vehicle is serviced and maintained at an authorised outlet for the warranties to be effective.

If you’re planning to get a used car apply the tips above and Happy Hunting :-) .
