Car Radiator

Since there are numerous moving mechanical parts in a car’s engine, the continuous movement of those engine parts creates friction which in turn creates heat.

To reduce the friction, the effected parts will be lubricated when the motor oil is pumped throughout the engine. However, as part of the engine normal operation, the motor oil alone is not enough to dissipate heat as other parts of the engine continue to generate heat and the heat produced often reaches boiling stage. This is where radiator is required.

In order to avoid overheating and seizure it is important to keep the engine cool. Besides, total engine failure will occur if the pistons fail to function due to excessive friction. A mixture of antifreeze/coolant and water is pumped throughout the engine block in order to dissipate heat especially away from the engine’s vital areas to avoid total engine failure. As the engine coolant circulates the engine, it tends to absorb the heat and becomes superheated.

The radiator cools the superheated engine coolant before it circulates in the different parts of the engine block. Car radiators are solely created to maximize surface area. The superheated engine coolant pass through the radiator fold and chambers and excess heat releases through the walls of the radiator.

Additional cooling present with the aid of an electrical or belt-driven fan. The fan also accelerates the engine coolant cooling process by forcing in cool outside air through the radiator. The radiator will also in turn cooled down by the outside air coming through the car’s grill as the car travels. While the car is in motion, the process of engine coolant absorbing heat and being cooled by means of the radiator and circulating back again to the engine is a continuous process.

Radiators may have some special sensors that register the temperature of the coolant as it leaves the radiator. Thus it is very important that the level of your engine coolant is regularly checked. Never leave your engine coolant to dry out since this will damage your engine and your radiator. If you have leaking radiator, have it fixed or replaced with a new one as soon as possible since it will result to your car’s unceasing overheating.

Car radiators are important and needs proper maintenance. One must be aware of the problems that might occur. Leaky radiator maybe caused by: from a split hose or faulty connection to the radiator or engine, a crack or hole in the coolant overflow tanks on the top or sides of your car radiator. To avoid bigger problem and expenses, see to it that your VW radiator is well maintained.
